RSI donates $10,000 in relief funds after Hurricane Ida devastation

September 29, 2021

On September 4, 2021, Hurricane Ida ripped through central N.J. with record rainfall of 8.41 inches in a single day. This caused severe flooding throughout Union, Middlesex, and Somerset Counties, as well as the surrounding area, destroying homes, vehicles, infrastructure, and leaving many in a state of emergency.

RSI Bank responded to the community need and relief efforts by donating $10,000 to non-profit organization Rahway Food for Friends. Typically, this annual donation supports families in need during the holiday season, but this year the donation was made early to assist those left homeless and hungry due to the storm.

When David R. Taylor, President and CEO of RSI Bank and Rachael Faillace, Corporate Secretary and Vice President of Marketing, learned that Rahway Food for Friends’ facility and supplies were lost in the flood, they decided to act immediately to support the local community.

Rahway Food for Friends’ mission is ‘to feed hungry people via food distributions programs on a monthly and emergency basis. To operate a weekly soup kitchen, to feed the hungry, homeless, and needy families and to provide educational information on nutrition and social services, public assistance, etc. through literature and referrals.’

On the same day the donation was made, Patricia Carter and Candance Ashe from Rahway Food for Friends presented James King with a plaque in thanks for RSI Bank’s support during Covid-19 pandemic. The plaque states:

“Presented To Mr. Taylor and RSI Bank – Noble Support & Dedication in Fighting Hunger Covid-19. Without your sponsorship we could not continue to feed. Thank you humbly, Rahway Food for Friends.”

Mr. King accepted the plaque on behalf of Mr. Taylor and RSI Bank. The Bank made a $10,000 donation for emergency support early in the Covid-19 pandemic (May-June 2020), in addition to an annual donation for 2020. This plaque was recognizing and thanking RSI Bank for that commitment and aid.
